Over the past couple of months, you’ve been submitting artwork to us, here at the Navigator, and we have the final scores!
Before we reveal the winners, however, here’s some background into how the points were distributed. The week after the submission deadline, the Navigator staff (minus myself) voted for a First, Second and Third Prize, along with an Honorable Mention. The Navigator staff was permitted to submit something, but that was not something our staff judges could rank. (I had to disqualify a couple of votes because of this.) That was then converted into points, with four points going to an artwork every time one of the judges ranked it first on their voting card, three points for second, two for third and one for the honorable mention slot. Nine judges were present, which means the maximum amount of points someone could receive in this part of the final score was 36. (Nine judges times a maximum of four points per judge) This part counted for exactly 50% of the final score.
The remaining 50% came from the public vote on our display in Laker Point, during the week of Oct. 23-27. The display was directly beside the Navigator table at Club-or-Treat, on Oct. 25. We had a total of 12 votes, over the course of the mentioned week, from students, staff, and attendees of the Club-or-Treat. The number of votes each artwork received was multiplied by three, which meant that the maximum number of points one piece was able to receive was also 36.
Both of these categories created a maximum of 72 points for one art piece.
So, without any further ado, here are the final scores for the Inktober Art Contest 2023. You can view the top four in the Student Life office from 11/6 – 11/10.
Honorable Mention (4th Place) – “Two People Carving Pumpkins” by Sarah Thomas
3rd Place – “Squirrel on a Tree” by Abigail Mood
2nd Place – “Perspectives of Trees” by Doris Reynolds
WINNER – “Rising from the Dead” by Asia James
Thanks to everyone who participated in the Inktober Art Contest. If you submitted a physical artwork, we encourage that you stop by the Student Life office and pick it up. We will try to do another art contest in the spring, so you can try again for the top prize!
