Noah Jones is Lake Land College’s (LLC) Student Government Association (SGA) treasurer. Jones is from Effingham, IL, and graduated from Effingham High School (EHS). Throughout his high school years, he took part in numerous extracurricular activities, such as student council and football. He also served as class president in his time at EHS. Not only has Jones been active within his school, but he is also active outside of school. “I like hunting, hanging out with my dog, and just hanging out with my friends in general,” he smiled.
Noah is a pre-chiropractic student. After his time here, he plans to transfer to Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) to further his studies.
When entering his freshman year at LLC, Jones was not planning on joining SGA. However, after discussing it with his mom, he decided it would be a great opportunity. After joining, Jones was so glad he had. “After I got here [into SGA], I really fell in love with it,” he added with a nod. He went on to express his ongoing enjoyment as a part of SGA, and he feels more involved now than ever. “Especially now that I’m taking on a bigger role, I feel more involved,” said Jones.
As his freshman year came to a close, Jones decided he wanted to continue his involvement, so he decided to run for treasurer. “My freshman year, I sat back in the meetings and listened. I wanted to have more to do, and I just wanted to be more involved,” he noted. As treasurer, Jones keeps up with the funds, and keeps track of the inflow and outflow of money through SGA. “I give a treasurer’s report every week, and I’m in charge of the funds to make sure we don’t go bankrupt here in student government,” he said with a laugh.
Jones believes involvement is important for students for many reasons. “I think it’s important for you to be involved because it helps you with your leadership skills. Also, you’ll carry that [leadership skills] out for the rest of your life,” he said. He also noted that involvement can be a big help when transferring when he said, “It [involvement] looks good when you plan to transfer to a different university [because] they see that on your transcript.”
During his time as SGA treasurer, Jones hopes to manage the funds in the best way possible. “I just want to make sure we give enough money to everyone who needs it, like the clubs, and to other ideas we want to do,” he stated. He continued, saying, “Hopefully we’ll still have enough left over to give scholarships.”
Jones concluded with his love for all the members in SGA. “I think that’s a cliché answer [for what I enjoy most], but they’re a great group of people to be around,” he said delightedly.
