As “Barbenheimer” summer was booming, we were introduced to another media phenomenon set to release in late October. In May, Universal Pictures posted the official teaser for “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” which releases Oct. 27. Not even three months later, Taylor Swift announced the upcoming release of “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” at the Eras Tour, set to release the same day of the Blumhouse production.
Five Nights at Freddy’s was initially an indie game that became a full-blown franchise in less than a decade. Since 2015, the franchise has grown to have several games that develop lore with each playthrough and even merchandise sold at retailers. Filming for the movie finally started in February, after a two-year delay due to script changes. On May 16, Universal Pictures posted the official teaser for the approximately calculated $25 million film. During summer, the trailers were released, revitalizing hype for the movie.
According to IMDb, the film follows a troubled security guard (portrayed by Josh Hutcherson) who begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. During his first night on the job, he realizes that the night shift won’t be so easy to get through. Pretty soon, he will unveil what happened at Freddy’s. The motion picture also features Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo, SLC Punk!) and Elizabeth Lail (Countdown, You).
The other half of this occurrence is the reveal of “1989 (Taylor’s Version).” Swift has given us a glimpse of the forthcoming rendition with the release of her version of “Wildest Dreams” in September 2021. The fourth upcoming re-recording follows her launch in February, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).”
Many nostalgic hits such as “Shake It Off,” “Bad Blood,” ”Blank Space,” and “Style” will appear on the album along with five confirmed “From The Vault” tracks. Many fans look forward to what the Vault songs will offer, as several speculate the album is about her relationship with Harry Styles. The “From The Vault” tracks are a recurring concept, where Swift releases songs that weren’t initially on the album.
The only way to explain this phenomenon is pure coincidence, as the two have nothing in common (that we know of). Both fandoms look forward to their respective media, some even intertwined with each other. In my thoughts, I look forward to both the album coming and the movie release. An unanticipated yet fascinating combination of media that’s certain to satisfy our constant need for entertainment.
