Lake Land College’s (LLC) Student Government Association (SGA) has had a great start to the semester. Over the course of the past month, they had a few meetings where they discussed important upcoming events, and they also had a guest come to speak about helping LLC further cultivate an inclusive and equitable environment. In addition, the SGA sophomores met with President Bullock.
SGA wrapped up August and entered September with their first giveaway. Students were able to enter the giveaway through SGA’s social media accounts. In total, SGA received over 80 entries, and winners were chosen toward the end of the month. Early in the month of September, the sophomore SGA members also met with President Bullock. The meeting was one in which the officers and sophomore delegates had the opportunity to introduce themselves and discuss the start of the semester. Throughout the meeting, President Bullock and SGA discussed new and exciting aspects of campus such as LLC’s great mental health services, The Navigator’s new layout, and the upcoming renovations that will be taking place throughout the next few years. President Bullock also expressed his delight in seeing everyone return to campus.
In the meetings that followed, SGA discussed upcoming events that will be taking place as the semester progresses. Career Day is quickly approaching on October 3, and on October 12 Temple Grandin will be speaking on campus. They also discussed LLC’s annual One Stop Community Christmas, explaining that for each club donation, SGA will match with an equal donation. Another upcoming event noted was the next blood drive which will be held November 9. As well as discussing events, Mercury Bowen shared with the team ideas to help LLC further cultivate an inclusive and equitable environment. Finally, SGA welcomed their freshman delegates in their most recent meeting, eager to get to know each and every one of them.
