Christina Douglas is Lake Land College’s (LLC) 2023-24 Student Government Association (SGA) Secretary. Douglas is from Toledo, Illinois, and she graduated from Cumberland High School. She is an ag transfer major here at LLC, and she hopes to transfer to Murray State University (MSU) in order to pursue her equine massage therapy license. Outside of school, Douglas loves spending time with her dog, playing and taking him on walks. She also enjoys working with horses. “I train mustangs with my mom so we get to take in wild ones and train them,” Douglas said with a smile. In her high school years, Douglas recalls her participation in various clubs such as Future Farmers of America (FFA) and Student Council, as well as her leadership roles within.
Douglas joined SGA here at LLC to further her involvement. “I like to be involved. I pretty well jumped in full force here at Lake Land. I joined SGA and I spend pretty well all of my free time here at the school, in the office, [or] helping out Lisa or whoever [is] in here with whatever they [need],” Douglas said. Enthusiastically, she also stated, “I volunteer a lot with some of the stuff. I do pretty well every blood drive we have. I volunteer for that, and I get to talk to some of the students and people that are donating. And then, I volunteer for different events.” Among the different events Douglas has taken part in, she looked back on the One Stop Community Christmas event that LLC hosts annually, and noted that it was enjoyable and it was a good experience.
Being secretary for SGA means Douglas is in charge of taking notes for all of their meetings, in order to give proper feedback for what was said. In her time as secretary, she hopes to improve student life and make LLC a place where people want to be involved. “I want to make sure Student Life is at a decent point when I leave. I know it’s at a decent point now, but there’s always room for improvement. It’s what we strived for last year, and it’s what we’re going to strive for this year,” Douglas asserted.
Her favorite part about SGA is the people. Douglas loves the community she gets to work with, and she enjoys meeting those who are new. “I like getting to be here and [I like] meeting some of the new people that are coming in [both] employees [and] students,” she said cheerfully.
