This fall semester, Lake Land College (LLC) is welcoming Thomas Moll as the new mental health services coordinator. He will be offering individual or group therapy for a variety of mental health related issues such as life and school stress, depression, anxiety and others. Cognitive methods, including positive coping strategies, will be used to help students with the mental health struggles they may be facing, in order to allow them to perform their best, both personally and academically. Moll will also be working to help expand upon and improve current wellness services available to students on campus.
Moll has 20 years of experience in the mental health field and attended the University of Illinois as well as the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for his master’s degree. Before this, Moll began his education at LLC and was drawn to the field of psychology. When asked what brought him back to LLC for his career, he stated that, “If I had an opportunity to get back to the place I started, it’d be a good place to spend the next 20 years.” A lot has happened on LLC campus between the time of his graduation and the time of his return as part of the staff, and many positive changes have occurred. “I’m very proud of that,” Moll says in response. Moll plans to help with furthering the growth of LLC not only by providing counseling, but also through the development of wellness and healthcare services available on campus.
In the few weeks that Moll has been here working at LLC, he already feels welcome and says that “The staff has been wonderful and has students on the top of their minds.” Out of everything, he is most looking forward to helping students and being a part of the health and wellness efforts on campus. His office is currently located at TRIO in room 410, but will later be moved to room 512, located between the bookstore and Subway, within the student center.
