Are you ready for the LaLa Ri experience? Show UP & Show OUT for this once-in-a-lifetime, small-town pride adventure that’s the second largest in Illinois, starting late September!
Uniting Pride of Champaign County hosts this week-long festival annually, with several occasions and sponsors for the LGBTQ+ community and allies of all ages. This year, the festival spans from Sept. 23rd to Oct. 1st at various venues across the Champaign/Urbana area.
Pride month is internationally considered June, due to the history behind the Stonewall Uprising of 1969 and the civil moment sequencing after.
“We believe this community deserves robust programming beyond just once a year, including at a time when most of our community members are here in town – the Fall. We choose to produce this special program at this time and invite the entire community to join us,” states Uniting Pride on its website.
This fun expedition kickstarts with the “We Are Here” block party, following panels, parties, and performative shows throughout the week.
The signature fair and parade resources small-town businesses and artists, while providing a safe space for LGBTQ+ members.
The finale consists of two drag shows; one featuring LaLa Ri, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 8 contestant and Fame Game Winner, and the other being a drag show/brunch buffet hosted by drag performer Just Sue and MyPride365 organization.
Previously, the UP Pride Fest occurred in 2021 and 2022.
This is a remarkable experience for LGTBQ+ of all ages to gain helpful resources and make lifelong friends.
