The 2016 Lake Land College girls volleyball team is starting out the year with their eyes set on becoming conference and regional champs this upcoming season. This is one of the main goals set by the team.

“We have a strong group, and have been working really hard to become better to get conference and region volleyball titles back to LLC. This upcoming season will be a hard battle,” sophomore Nathalya de Souza said.

The hard battle begins at practice, with one of the returning starters injured and unable to play till October, there are four returning players on the team. Joining the team this year are seven incoming freshmen and a transferring sophomore.  The ladies seem to be getting along well.

“We have great team chemistry already, so we are hoping for a successful season,” sophomore Rachel Mullen said.

The team also hopes to advance to the district tournament, but not all their goals are about what happens on the court. The team recognizes the need to focus on their school work. They have also set a goal of having the highest team GPA.

“We are ready to face any challenges that stand in the way of us achieving our goals,” said sophomore Daria Voronina.

Their goal-achieving season kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 24.  It is an away game against Kaskaskia College located in Centralia, Ill. The first home game is against John A Logan College Aug. 31 at 6:30 p.m. in the field house. The season will run all the way to November.  For a full schedule, visit the volleyball page in the athletic section on the Lake Land College website.
