American rock band Black Veil Brides are celebrating 10 years of the bands first album “We Stitch These Wounds.” Not only does this year mark the 10 year anniversary for their debut studio album, but it also celebrates the first decade of the band’s success.

On July 20, 2010, “We Stitch These Wounds” by Black Veil Brides was officially released. With its lead singles being “Knives and Pens” and “Perfect Weapon,” two songs that quickly became major hits by the band, the album rapidly gained popularity. It reached number 36 on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts and number 20 on U.K. Rock charts. 

Throughout the years, the band had reflected back on “We Stitch These Wounds” as a pivotal point in their careers as musicians. However, they would always point out how they wish they could go back in time and change certain things within the record. When Black Veil Brides made the album, it was on a very low budget and they had a limited amount of time. Due to the restraints of finances and timing, their first album was not as fine-tuned or polished as they wish it would have been years later. The band liked the idea of revisiting “We Stitch These Wounds,” but they didn’t know when the right time to do so would appear. As 2020 approached, they decided that there was no better time than the album’s tenth anniversary. 

At the end of 2019, Black Veil Brides began working on the re-recording of the original album. The goal for this record was to make it somewhat of a companion piece to the original album, not necessarily a replacement. The band wanted to re-record “We Stitch These Wounds” to make it sound as grand as they had originally wanted it to. Vocalist Andy Beirsack, lead guitarist Jake Pitts, and rhythm guitarist Jinxx were taking the material that they had written 10 years ago and were making changes in areas where they felt it was needed. While they wanted to improve each song, they did not want to completely change them to make them a totally new song. They simply wanted it to be a revamped version of the original. Drummer Christian Coma was not on the original “We Stitch These Wounds,” for he joined the band shortly after its release. For the re-record, he was able to put his own twist on it by adding drum fills and changing the way some were originally played. The band also got a new bassist, Lonny Eagleton, in place of the recently departed original bassist, Ashley Purdy. This record would be the first album with Lonny on bass.

The re-recorded album, titled “Re-Stitch These Wounds,” was officially released on July 31. The overall reception of the record from fans and listeners was extremely positive. “Re-Stitch These Wounds” placed within the top 20 on several Billboard charts, including number one on Current Hard Rock Albums and number five on Independent Current Albums. While the album was reaching such great success, Black Veil Brides was trying to come up with more ways to celebrate the 10-year anniversary. Originally, they were planning on following up the initial release of the record with an anniversary tour as well as creating a couple of music videos to go along with some of the redone songs. However, due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, production of the music videos was not able to occur, and since all live music and concerts have been canceled or postponed, a tour could not take place. 

While they could not do the full-on anniversary tour, Black Veil Brides did put on a virtual concert experience for fans. On Aug. 1, they put on a live performance from the historic rock venue in Los Angeles, The Whisky a Go Go. They performed “Re-Stitch These Wounds” in its entirety, even songs that have never been played live before, for fans to watch all around the world in the comfort of their own home. 

The band has also been releasing several merchandise drops throughout the past few months to go along with celebrating 10 years of Black Veil Brides. The merch would only be available for 10 days, and in a recent email, it has been stated that new items would be available on the tenth of every month until the end of the year. 

Even though a majority of their plans to celebrate the anniversary of their first album weren’t able to happen due to the current state of the world, Black Veil Brides have had great success with “Re-Stitch These Wounds” and continue to thank their fans every step of the way. Now that the re-recording is out, the band will continue to move on in their careers and are currently in the process of writing and recording their sixth full length album, and fans are beyond excited to see what Black Veil Brides will come up with next.
