Get involved with PRIDE Club, PTK and more Lake Land Clubs
September 1, 2020
This semester is off to a different start than students have seen in the past, undoubtedly. With campus being largely closed or restricted access, many student activities are being conducted virtually as opposed to in-person. That said, there are still many ways to be involved with a student organization or club.
Lake Land College offers various activities through SAB, the Student Activity Board. One need only check their Laker mail for information regarding these ventures, but for those of you who tend to avoid your email; more information is readily available on Lake Land’s website. PRIDE Club will be meeting monthly via Zoom. PRIDE, for those who may not know, is an inclusive group dedicated to fostering understanding and equality for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and plus communities. Allies are also welcomed to participate in PRIDE Club, and strongly encouraged to do so. Any student seeking more information may contact Marcy Satterwhite.
Phi Theta Kappa, part of the Honors Experience at Lake Land, is currently seeking new members in the hopes of becoming a 5 Star Chapter for their third consecutive year. Eligibility for official PTK membership requires enrollment in an associate degree program, at least 12 semester hours completed, and a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. However, as of this semester, any student may join as a provisional member. Reaching 5 Star status through a virtual environment may prove to be an interesting challenge. Those students who wish to be a part of Phi Theta Kappa in these unprecedented times can contact Krista Burrell or seek information through Lake Land’s website.
In the midst of a global pandemic, isolation can pose a looming issue for many, students especially. Reaching out and becoming a part of a group is an effective way to foster human connection and stay involved. I would urge anyone to take advantage of all the opportunities Lake Land College has to offer. This is a school and a community that genuinely cares, and even when it may not feel as such, everyone is still here for you!
