Vine will always go down in history as one of the greatest short-form video applications of all time. I remember when it was launched, back when I was in middle school. It quickly became my favorite source of entertainment. I could easily spend three to four hours at a time scrolling through all of the videos on the app. My favorite video category was comedy of course. I also remember how completely and utterly devastated I was when I found out that Vine was being shut down. I grieved the loss of the app, as did the rest of the world. 

While some people say that Vine is now dead, they are very wrong, for Vine will never die. It lives on in many ways. People post compilations of their favorite vines on YouTube, and some of vines biggest fans continue to quote and reference some of their favorite vines in their day to day life, I myself included. 

Within the past few years, the new video sharing app called TikTok has risen into an empire of its own. It is so popular that I find it rare to come across someone who doesn’t have the application. People have also started comparing TikTok to Vine. I have seen video compilations on YouTube of TikToks that “radiate Vine energy” or “give Vine a run for its money”. Some people even say that TikTok is the new Vine. 

I strongly disagree with that statement. From what I have seen, the content in TikTok videos are significantly different from the content in Vines. The majority of TikToks I’ve seen are just people doing dance routines or lip syncing to popular songs. I know not all of them are like that, but that is the type of content that I typically see in TikTok ads, which are the only place I see TikToks because I have not downloaded the app and I don’t plan on doing so any time soon. To me, Vines have a lot more creativity and originality in them. From very humorous six-second skits to capturing genuine reactions from people, the content in Vine videos have more individuality. That makes them more interesting and enjoyable.

Even though TikToks popularity continues to grow, I believe it will never compare to nor have as big of a cultural impact as Vine. Also, it is most definitely not a replacement of Vine, as Vine will continue to live on and never die.
