As Easter approaches, people around the world are busy dying eggs, making baskets filled with chocolates, taking their kids to see the Easter bunny and that sort of stuff. However, the world seems to forget that the true reason that we celebrate Easter, and the reason that Easter exists, is to remember and celebrate Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection.

Now for those of you who do not know who Jesus is, He is God’s only begotten Son, the second part of the Holy Trinity, the Messiah, the Alpha and the Omega, the Prince of Peace, God Himself and the list goes on. He came to Earth in the form of a human to be the perfect sacrifice for all of humanity’s sins.

The Easter story began when Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey as a great multitude shouted His praises. While in Jerusalem, He healed the blind and the lame, taught parables and instituted the Lord’s Supper, which is the representation of Jesus’ death for our sins. During this time, Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus’ 12 disciples, betrayed Him to the chief priests for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus was put on trial and later crucified on the cross. He was laid to rest inside a tomb that was sealed shut with a large stone and guarded. On the third day after His death, Jesus came back to life and defeated and conquered death and the grave. All of this happened so that the Scriptures would be fulfilled.

In the New King James Version of the Holy Bible, John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” The part about everlasting life means that once you have personally accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and recognized His sacrifice and resurrection, then you are saved and will go to Heaven after you die. You may ask yourself, “But why did Jesus have to die for our sins?” It is because God loves us so much that Jesus had to die for the price of our sins, so that we would no longer be separated from Him. God’s love is unfathomable, pure and good. It is never too late to ask for forgiveness and to ask Jesus into your heart.
