The men’s basketball team ended their 2019-2020 season on a losing streak of three games and overall had seven wins and 22 losses. In their most recent games, they lost on Feb. 1 against Shawnee with 79-69, lost on Feb. 5 against Wabash Valley with 105-70, lost on Feb. 8 against John A. Logan with 90-61, won on Feb. 12 against Kaskaskia with 88-82, won on Feb. 15 against Southeastern Illinois with 76-64, lost on Feb. 19 against Vincennes with 100-59, lost on Feb. 22 against Lewis & Clark with 110-97, and lost on Feb. 24 against Southwestern Illinois with 80-69. The team averaged 79.5 points per game, 16.3 assists per game and 36.9 rebounds per game.
In the National Junior College Athletic Association, NJCAA, the team placed overall tenth in number of games competed, forty-third in three-point field goal percentage per game with 36.7, sixty-ninth in free throws made per game with 14.7, and seventy-first in free throws attempted per game with 21.5.
On the team there are eight forwards: two sophomore forwards, Nick Cohorst from Newton Ill. and Nemanja Tanaskovic from Cacak, Serbia, and six freshmen, Christian Kapongo from Hamilton, Ontario, Connor Cloyd from Findley, Ill., Maurice Welfare-Harris from Queens, New York, Amari Sherrod from Gary, Ind., Isaiah May from Belleville, Ill., and Jason Larson from Mount Horeb, Wis. There are also six guards, three are sophomores, Hunter White from Indianapolis, Adam Price from Memphis, Tenn., and Ty Waller from Rockford, Ill., and three are freshmen, Jaydn Princko from Mattoon, Ill., Jevon Morris from Munster, Ind., and Jacarius Burks from Oak Grove, Ky. They also have one center, Clint Weber from Teutopolis, Ill.
Individually in the overall statistics from NJCAA, several players did well. Jason Larson overall played 152 minutes throughout the season and scored 116 points. Isaiah May played for 338, scored 208 points, and had a free throw success rate of 81.8 percent. Hunter White played for 364, scored 213 points, assisted 111 times and rebounded 109 times. Ty Waller played for 375 minutes, scored 253 points and assisted 68 times. Nick Cohorst played for 338 minutes and rebounded 129 times.
Overall, the men’s basketball team’s talent seems to be declining over the years. In the 2018-2019 season they had 11 wins and 20 losses, and in the 2017-2018 season they had 17 wins and 14 losses.
