Monday, March 28th; the SGA and Student Trustee election results were released for the 2016-2017 school year. Candidates from many different backgrounds, ages, and areas of study ran for the chance to become a Student Government official or the Student Trustee.

Jensyn Morrison of Cowden, Illinois was elected the 2016-2017 Student Trustee. Morrison is a psychology major who plans on receiving her PhD in Clinical Psychology. As Student Trustee, Morrison will serve as the student liaison to the Lake Land College Board of Trustees. Essentially, she is the voice of the students. When asked about the election, Morrison said, “I am overjoyed to serve as the Student Trustee for the 2016-17 school year, I truly put my heart and soul into my campaign. It is good to see that hard work truly does pay off. If I could relay one message to the student body about myself it would be that I am a very approachable person here at Lake Land College. There is no problem that is too big or too small, do not be afraid to voice your concerns to myself or the Student Government Association. I look forward to being in contact with the board and being the voice of the student body.” Morrison will be taking over the position from Adam Doty, the 2015-16 Student Trustee.

The Student Government Association’s elections were held with the Student Trustee elections. SGA is a student-run organization in Student Life. Student Government works alongside the student body to voice concerns to the Student Trustee, who then delivers those concerns to the Board of Trustees. This year’s Student Government Association’s delegates are as follows: LaKaylee Ordner, Cassandra Hall, Melanie Adams, Kaitlin Slifer, Blake Dunham, Jessica Blazich, and Taylor Higgins. The two students who received the most write-in nominations are Madison Easton and Kristina Neu. They will be able to choose if they will accept the nomination and fill the two remaining SGA spots.

262 students put in a vote for this year’s election.
