Club Spotlight: Laker Christian Fellowship

Abigail Buenker, Managing Editor

If you’ve been to the Luther Student Center recently, it is hard to walk through the doors of the building without being stopped by members of the Laker Christian Fellowship. Formerly known as S.W.A.T. or Servants With A Testimony, the club has begun the process of rebranding their club presence on campus.

The club decided to make the name change because they felt that the name was not clear enough and feared that prospective members would be confused with the acronym SWAT.

Along with changing their club name, the club has also been trying to expand their membership by passing out hundreds of flyers to students. The flyers, which aptly read, “A place to gather one another in worship, spread the love of Christ, equip one another with the scriptures, and to enjoy the fellowship of one another” has become the club’s newest mission statement. The club participates in a wide variety of events.

During their prayer and worship meetings,  students gather to worship and offer fellow students their prayers or just some encouragement. With the help of club officers Tanner Clark, Annika Slabaugh, Michael Grovier, Kate Edwards, and Shawn Shaeffer, the club has made great strides in creating a sense of fellowship both in and out of their meetings. In revising their constitution for Spring 2019, their goal is to create new opportunities to form a community in which members can encourage each other and lift each other up in the Lord every day. This comes through trust in each other, expansion of spiritual growth, and service to the Lake Land community.

During the spring semester, the Laker Christian Fellowship has been meeting in Neal Hall Room 109 on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 11:30 a.m. If you are interested in joining Students With A Testimony (soon to be named Laker Christian Fellowship), connect with the club on their public Facebook page or join them at their meetings next semester!
