Sarah Bush brings mobile mammography to campus

April 1, 2019
Lake Land has many health services to offer its students. The campus nurse, Sharon Uphoff, is available at the West Building in room 072. The services provided by her office include non-prescription medication, first aid emergency care, dressing injuring, weight and blood pressure check, consultations and assistance in obtaining information on local physicians. Uphoff also helps students with prolonged illnesses, accidents or family emergencies which may cause the student to miss three or more days of classes. Students who experience these incidents must contact Uphoff so that proper notification can be made to instructors.
All women over the age of 35 also have access to Mobile Mammogram services on April 24 at the Mattoon campus. Women over the age of 40 are recommended to receive an annual mammogram; this is covered by most insurance plans. Mammograms can detect breast cancer at an early stage. When breast cancer is found early, it is less likely that aggressive treatment is needed and is more likely to be cured. The Mobile Mammogram will open at 10 a.m. on April 24 and walk-in appointments are available, though scheduling is preferred and prevents lengthy wait times.
