With September quickly approaching, we are nearing the end of the 3rd quarter of the year, and that means some new exciting video game releases. There are many exciting things coming out in the latter half of August and September, from a new expansion of the 14-year-old World of Warcraft, to a new Destiny 2 Expansion, and a remaster of a certain beloved purple dragon.

Released on August 14th, Battle for Azeroth, World of Warcraft’s newest and biggest expansion, hit its first day of full release, selling 3.4 million copies worldwide and setting a new one-day sales record for the franchise, making it one of the fastest-selling PC games of all time. It introduces a few new unlockable races and the Demon Hunter class, for all those Illidan Stormrage fans. It is also touting an upcoming Stromgarde Warfront. The new Uldir raid, the start of the first PvP season and Mythic Keystone dungeon all start on September 4th as well.

On August 28th comes the new Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate to the Nintendo Switch. While visually it is fairly in line with the portable games of the series, it is a substantially upgraded version of the 3DS port. It will make a great gateway into the series for switch users, similar to what Monster Hunter World did for PS4 and Xbox users. Veterans should still be overjoyed though, as it features the largest monster list of the entire series, with 100’s of hours before you get bored. Not to mention it also has save imports from the 3DS.

While Bungie might be a bit on the backfoot with its relationships with its Destiny 2 player base, the new Forsaken expansion coming out on September 4th might be looking to change that. The expansion offers new Guardian subclasses each with their own new super abilities as well as a new bow weapon for all the Robin Hood fans out there. It also gives a refreshing new gameplay experience in its new game mode Gambit: a mix of PvE and PvP into 1 massive battlefield. And with Cayde-6 falling into the hands of Uldren Sov in the cinematic trailer, players can certainly be excited about some revenge.

Insomniac Games, the creators behind Ratchet & Clank, are making a new open world PS4 exclusive starring a fan favorite superhero, Spiderman, to be released on September 21st. The game isn’t tied to any comic or movie, giving the writers a little more freedom in their storyline choices. Hopefully, this means fans will not be forced to sit through another rehashed origin story. The game includes conflicts with some of the best villains of the franchise like Black Cat, Mr. Negative, Vulture, Electro, Silver Sable, Black Cat, Rhino, Kingpin, and another mystery member of the Sinister Six.

On September 14th Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the third and final game of the Tomb Raider reboot focused on her origins, will be released. More so than the other 2 games of the trilogy, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will have more of an emphasis on stealth, with her being outnumbered in the South American jungles and all. In a move uncharacteristic to Lara, she also might have been the indirect cause of a bit of an apocalypse.

Fans of our favorite little purple dragon Sypro are getting a gift on September 21st. Coming to Xbox One and the PS4, the Spyro Reignited game will be a three pack of the first three Spyro games with refined graphics sustainably updated on the Unreal Engine 4.  The 1998 series was well-loved and looks to receive even more love from gamers both old and new.

Releasing on PC on September 25th is a game RPG and tabletop game fans have been looking forward to for a while—Pathfinder: Kingmaker. Pathfinder: Kingmaker, based on the popular tabletop game Pathfinder(a prominent alternative to widely known Dungeons and Dragons) is an isometric RPG made in the same vein as Pillars of Eternity and Divinity: Original Sin. It starlights a lot of the same features available in the tabletop game, including the alluring storyline of the Kingmaker campaign, with a few adjustments so veterans of the game can get a new experience. Also of note, they have RPG powerhouse Chris Avellone on board, maker of classics like Fallout 2, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment.

Last but not least of this month’s big releases is Fifa 19 to the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC on September 28th. It features the fan favorites of the Europa League, the Super Cup, and even the new UEFA Champions League. It also continues on the grand career mode that follows Fifa 17&18 star, Alex Hunter. Gameplay-wise, it also adds some new mechanics to give the user more control over the ball, like the ability to fake trap the ball using the new Active Touch System. With all these amazing titles throughout so many genres, it looks to be a strong quarter 3 finish for gaming fans of all sorts.
