New Music

New year, New music. 2018 has been in full swing for a few months now, so let’s take a moment to reflect on some new bops you likely haven’t heard yet.

Let’s start with Hip-Hop/Rap. I don’t know about you guys, but the same guys rapping to the same beat has been getting old. So I bring to you, “Picking You” by Young Fathers. It’s from the album Cocoa Sugar, which for me was an emotional experience. It has a different sound and dreamy lyrics that leave you wondering, “Why do I always end up with Scorpios and Geminis?”

In music of the country variety, I’ve dug up “Songs We Sang” by Levi Hummon. It has a nice beat to it, and plenty of nostalgia. Prepare to have this stuck in your head. I don’t usually like country music, but I actually kind of dig this song.

Now on to artists that I was surprised to find new music for. First being Shaggy and Sting’s “Morning is Coming.” It’s reggae, upbeat, and the lyrics are nothing at all like the ultimate throwback, “It Wasn’t Me.”

Another band I was super surprised to find is still making music: Three Days Grace! Their new song “The Abyss,” is exactly what you would expect from them. I felt like it was 2013 and I was suddenly back in my emo phase. Listen at your own risk.

Last but not least, “The Waste of Suns” by Moby. His music, as always, is dreamy and haunting. He is the face of new music for sad teens. I recommend this album for falling asleep to something as sad as you are. Happy Listening!
