The early Niantic predecessor of Pokemon Go is Ingress, another Augmented Reality game. It focuses on ‘hacking’ portals to obtain keys and then create links between portals with said keys as well as creating control fields. The more area players cover the more points for their respected team. Green players, or the Enlightened, are fighting for control of the portals with the idea that they can use it to better humanity. While Blue players, or the resistance are fighting against it with the belief that they are there to instead protect humanity. The community stretches worldwide, and is still fairly active despite it being overshadowed by the newer overlayed Nintendo game.
