Student Life has placed donation buckets around campus and has been collecting money at the entrances to campus. Funds raised will go directly to impacted community colleges.

Student Government Association and Student Activity Board have partnered to raise money for those affected by the recent hurricanes. The money was collected from Oct. 25-29 and is going to help affected community colleges.

“All of the money raised for the hurricane relief is going to the Illinois Board of Higher Education Disaster relief fund to help community colleges that have been impacted by the recent disasters,” Student Life Administrative Assistant Marlene Meek said.

The news coverage of the disasters compelled the students to help in whatever way they could.

“Everybody was shocked by all the pictures on TV, so this is what we decided to do,” Meek said.

Meek said Student Life has raised money to help with disaster relief in the past.

“We did this after Hurricane Katrina in 2005,” Meek said.

The students raised $534.13 in total.
