Summer 2017 President’s Update

At Lake Land College, we always strive to improve and expand educational opportunities for you! This spring semester college officials have been busy creating several new programs and agreements to help you reach your goals.
Here is a list of just a few of the new initiatives at Lake Land College:

Medical Assistant Major
Allied Health faculty members worked with Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Systems to create a new Medical Assistant major. You can choose from a short-term certificate or an associate degree in this major that trains you to work as a certified medical assistant whose responsibilities include both administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, hospitals and other healthcare facilities. According to the national Bureau of Labor Statistics, this career field is expected to grow by 23 per cent through 2024.

Simplified Transfer to Lincoln Broadcasting Program
Students interested in a career in broadcasting have a new transfer option. Lake Land College and Lincoln College in Lincoln recently signed an articulation agreement that will allow students who earn an associate degree in Radio/TV Broadcasting to transfer seamlessly into Lincoln College’s Radio, Television and New Media program and earn a bachelor’s degree in two additional years.

EIU Transfer Major in Criminology
Criminal Justice students have a new transfer option as well. Eastern Illinois University recently announced the creation of a transfer major in Criminology. Criminal Justice is one of our most popular majors and we are very pleased that our students will have a location close to home to complete a bachelor’s degree.

Applied Engineering Technology Degree
The Technology Division recently revised and renamed an associate degree program to align with industry needs. The Applied Engineering Technology degree program prepares students to excel in the manufacturing industry or transfer and pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Laker Mobile App
The new Laker Mobile app is a great feature I encourage all of you to explore. You can see your schedule, check your grades, register for classes, pay your bill and check out all the campus activities and important deadlines on the Laker Calendar – all with a few swipes of your mobile device.

Sample Schedules
A new option in the Laker Hub allows you to plug in the classes you would like to take for summer or fall and it will create sample schedules for you. You’ll find this in the IRIS Menu, Registration, My Scheduling Options. This is very helpful for the many of you who have job and family responsibilities in addition to your course work.

These new academic options, online services and the college’s ranking as one of the nation’s top 10 providers of technology by the Center for Digital Education, are just some of the visible outcomes of our goals to provide an outstanding educational and service experience for you. We look forward to seeing many of you next fall and wish all the very best to our graduates.
