Electrons are subatomic (inside of atoms) particles with a negative charge.
Other subatomic particles are protons (positive charge) and neutrons (neutral charge).
Electrons reside in a “cloud” that orbits the nucleus, which is made of protons and neutrons, and play a big role in chemical bonding.
Electrons can be shared between two atoms. This sharing of electrons is called covalent bonding. Or, electrons can be given from one atom to another. This is called ionic bonding.
You may never see electrons, but they sure are good for holding the world as we know it together!
