Can the Cubs do it again?

Dalton Kemper, Multimedia Manager

We all know what happened in last year’s World Series. The Chicago Cubs came back from being down 3-1 and won the World Series against the Cleveland Indians. It was their first World Series Title in 108 years, ending the longest championship drought in United States professional sports history. Now the question this year is: can they do it again? They certainly have retained a lot of the same players, but have lost a few, and many teams around the MLB have made some big moves toward improvement.
Heading into Spring Training, the Cubs still have their top players: Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Jake Arrieta. Everyone knows what those guys are capable of. Kris Bryant won the NL MVP award last year, and Anthony Rizzo was right up there with him. They will obviously continue to be the great players they are and give the Cubs another shot at a World Series. However, a couple players have been lost from last year including Dexter Fowler, Jason Hammel and David Ross.
Dexter Fowler was huge for the Cubs last season, and was very consistent all season at the top of their order. Surprisingly, he left the Cubs this offseason and signed a contract with the NL Central Division rival St. Louis Cardinals. Not only did Fowler leave, but so did pitcher Jason Hammel, signing a contract with the Kansas City Royals. Hammel won fifteen games for the Cubs last season, so they’ll have to fill that hole if they want to succeed again this season.
All across the MLB,  many teams have been making moves to try and build a team capable of defeating the Chicago Cubs. Whether that will happen or not will have to be seen throughout the MLB season coming up this year.
