Dr. Josh Bullock, President of Lake Land College

Dr. Jonathan Bullock, Lake Land College President

I hope your semester is off to a great start! We have enjoyed getting to know you and look forward to a wonderful year. As you settle into your schedule, I encourage you to enjoy campus life outside of class. As a Laker, you have so many opportunities to create your own college experience.
At Lake Land College, we have a specific time set aside for you to explore your options. Every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. we have what we call the Activity Period. Because there are no classes scheduled during this time we schedule free campus events, club meetings and intramurals. It’s also a great time to work out in the Fitness Center, take advantage of free tutoring or hang out with friends in Laker Point.
We truly have something for everyone here. I know some of you seek leadership opportunities, while others may like to write for the award-winning student newspaper, the Navigator, or share your voice online on WLKL radio station. With more than 25 clubs on campus, you can find one associated with your major or a personal interest, such as the Environmental Club.
As a college we value community involvement and recognize our students who share our beliefs. There are college-wide opportunities to volunteer such as the Special Olympics Family Festival (SOFF) and One Stop Community Christmas, as well as individual club activities that benefit local community organizations. Through Student Life’s Work and Learn program you can receive a credential on your transcript documenting your service hours.
You can receive this same credential for participating in the Student Life Leadership Series. Held throughout the year, the seminars guide you in developing your leadership and communication skills.
Everyone is invited to enjoy the weekly entertainment at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays. Events range from entertainers to thought-provoking lectures. All activities are free and are planned and hosted by the Student Activity Board, a group comprised exclusively of Lake Land students.
As you can see there are a range of options for you to explore at Lake Land. During the next few months, members of the Student Activity Board and college staff will be asking you about the Activity Period. Please fill out a survey or participate in a focus group, if asked. We truly are interested in your feedback as we continuously seek to enhance your Laker experience.
